Lynnfield, MA Real Estate And Community Resources Guide

Lynnfield is a beautiful, residential suburb that offers a convenient location and an active social community. The town, which was originally settled in 1638, has maintained much of the green landscape of its agricultural past, yet its residents still enjoy a full line of public services and a thriving downtown lined with cafes, shops and restaurants. This, coupled with Lynnfield’s location alongside main highways and routes, allows its nearly 12,000 residents to have ample quiet privacy—and even a rural, secluded feel—without sacrificing modern conveniences. As such, several local celebrities such as Olympic figure skater Nancy Kerrigan and former Red Sox player Rico Petrocelli have made Lynnfield their hometown.

Despite boasting celebrity residents, Lynnfield offers a wide variety of home sizes and styles as well as a broad range of sale prices. In 2010 Lynnfield’s single-family home sale prices ranged from $230,000 to $1,550,000. The town’s mean and median single-family home sale prices were $562,006 and $529,000 respectively. Such figures encompass a wide variety of properties. Lynnfield homes range from smaller capes, ranches and split-levels to larger colonials and new, luxury homes. The town also offers condominium and townhouse options from the moderate to luxury level. Regardless of price, however, most properties in Lynnfield boast plenty of land with lots of trees, and homebuyers may choose from either older, settled neighborhoods or newer developments.

Alongside great esthetics and quiet privacy, Lynnfield offers a convenient location just twelve miles north of Boston. With direct access to I-95 and routes 1, 128 and 129, Lynnfield is only a twenty-minute drive from Boston and a short drive from the North Shore and Merrimack Valley. In addition, residents have easy access to points west of Boston and are just over forty minutes from New Hampshire. Lynnfield residents are also a five to ten-minute drive from the Town of Reading where there is direct Commuter Rail service to both Boston and the Merrimack Valley.

Aside from location, Lynnfield offers other great conveniences. Despite being a small town, Lynnfield has a full-service public works department that helps maintain a clean, beautiful town, providing everything from snow removal to infrastructure maintenance. The town’s fire and police departments are also full-service and operate a full-time force to keep residents safe. Additionally, residents have access to curbside trash, recycling and bulk item pickup services through a sticker system, and Lynnfield offers annual hazardous waste disposal as well as a brush and leaf drop-off center.

Lynnfield Public Schools also have a great reputation. Lynnfield students score well consistently on the state’s MCAS standardized tests, and Lynnfield schools rank competitively both locally and statewide. Lynnfield’s school system consists of two elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. The town also runs an accredited tuition-based preschool. In addition, Lynnfield is just fifteen minutes from St. John’s Prep School in Danvers, which is a top-rated, private high school for boys.

Lynnfield’s public library also helps further residents’ education and offers more than just rows of books. The library has various events as well as classes. There are computer, cooking and various hobby-centered classes. It hosts various book and film clubs for adults and youth, and educational programs and social events for children and young adults are plentiful. The library is also home to a history and genealogy collection that covers over 3,000 genealogies and 2,000 histories of Lynnfield as well as other local cities and towns.

Lynnfield is an active social community as well and offers lots of community events, activities and organizations for all ages. Annually, the town holds community events such as holiday tree lightings, town festivals and gardening competitions. On the every day level, Lynnfield’s recreation department sponsors various youth programs such as summer day camps and youth leagues for a variety of sports from the more common town basketball and soccer teams to the less common lacrosse and field hockey leagues. The town also hosts various soccer and softball leagues for adults ages 30 to 65+. The town’s senior citizens also maintain a very active community. The Lynnfield Senior Center organizes events such as antique car shows, dinners, music performances, exercise classes, and big band dances. Additionally, the Lynnfield Council on Aging helps provide public health clinics, transportation and other free and discounted services for seniors.

Lynnfield also has many opportunities for outdoor activities, since parks, lakes, ponds, and a river dot the town. Town residents even enjoy access to Greater Boston’s second largest municipal park, the Lynn Woods Reservation, which offers 2,200 of pristine forest. Lynn Woods offers trails for hiking, biking and running as well as wildlife observation, a rose a garden and other nature sites. In between all of its great natural landscapes, Lynnfield also coasts three golf courses. Two of the golf courses, Reedy Meadow and King Rail, are municipal 9-hole golf courses. The third, Sagamore Spring Golf Club, is a privately run 18-hole golf course.

Golf courses, quiet privacy and lots of green landscapes coupled with convenience, competitive schools and lots of home choices make Lynnfield an excellent option for many homebuyers looking for a peaceful suburb without a long commute to work or the grocery store.
